Cruise 2014

This year we will be cruising on the brand new Royal Princess.   We  have booked the aft balcony again, like last year.  This time we’re on a whole new deck – Marina Deck.  M725, with Jessica being next door in M727.  Joni and Tony will also be cruising with us on the Dolphin deck – D725.  We’ll be on a 7 day Eastern Caribbean Cruise – the itinerary is listed below.2014 itiniary

Because of Cruise Critic (website) we’re already aware that there may be soot issues with our aft cabins.  We’ve decided to keep our rooms and deal with the soot later, if we need to.  There are about a million pictures of the ship on this guys site here.  He started some of the albums (Royal Princess) when it was still under construction, so there’s a ton of information.  The one I find most interesting is the December 2013 one, since it was of his cruise and follows the same itinerary that ours does.

Here is our log of the cruise –

Caribbean Cruise 2014

Pre cruise –

Jessica flew in tonight – Saturday.  We went to Tacos n Tequilla (right by our place) for food after we picked her up.  We had the pulled chicken taquitos for appetizer.  I had chicken enchiladas and Scott has the chicken tortilla soup and tacos  esada.  yummy food

Day 1

We left Greenwood at around 9:15 – no traffic and no problem to get to the Park – n – go.

We used Park -n Go again to park the car.  They were quick and we were at the cruise terminal at about 11:00.

This is the first time Scott and I are Platinum, so we enjoyed the preferred boarding and got on the ship in no time at all.

Our balcony is pretty nasty from the soot.  Our bathroom faucet broke and the shower head won’t stay put.  Jesus has promised to fix it for us.

Sailaway was prompt at 4:00.  We celebrated with Jessica and Joni – Tony  joined us after he had to talk to security about Joni’s curing iron.  (We brought a box of wine, a rum runner of vodka, rum and stoli-doli, as well as dark rum – oh yes, two bottles of wine too) no security problems with us 🙂

We hung out on our combined balconies = Joni brought us electronic cigarettes – how much fun!

We all met at the Concerto restaurant for dinner.  Scott had 2 shrimp cocktails (well, I shared part of one), I had a melon medley.  For the main course, we both had prime rib – desert was the Love Boat Dream for me and Creme Brûlée for Scott.  Lots of laughs and fun.  We watched an entertainer – piano/singer.  He was pretty good.  Watched part of Last Vegas up at MUTS – need to finish that show – it was good.

Day 2 – Princess Cays.

I walked this morning up on the track – brought Scott his coffee and donut.  I’m off to Zumba this morning and I think Scott is heading to the buffet to have breakfast.

Zumba was fun – I’ll go again.  I had two lunches today – a hot dog and fries and second lunch was hamburger and fries.  We spent the day at the retreat pool.  Pretty warm – had to dip a few times to cool down.  No major sunburn though, so that’s good.

Dinner was at the Concerto Restaurant again with Ollicia  I had the hot crab and artichoke appetizer, Scott had the shrimp cocktail and a bowl of fish chowder.  We both had the steak and shrimp.  It was very good.  Lots of laughs with Jessica and Joni and Tony.  (Tony had 4 entrees)  wow!  I had the cheesecake for desert and Scott had apple walnut spring roll with a raspberry compote – yummy!  Went to bed early – watched The Lone Ranger on TV.

Day 3 Sea Day

Got up to a little rain.  I used the gym and the bicycle to get my exercise, since Zumba was cancelled.

Scott and I had breakfast in the buffet – food was OK, but we probably won’t do that again.

We went to the passenger service desk to mention the soot on the balcony – were promised some type of compensation – we will see what happens.

I also purchased our future cruise credit for each of us.  I think next up will be Panama Canal.

We hung out at the pool with the masses and had lunch at the International Cafe.  We both had chicken salad and tuna sandwich.  We spent the rest of the day on our balcony.  I did a couple loads of laundry.  Tonight is formal night, so we went to see the champagne waterfall.  We had dinner at our ‘usual’ place.  Tonight I had Shrimp cocktail, French Onion soup and beef medallions.  Scott had smoked duck, the onion soup and cornish game hen – very good.  We went up to the bar to hang out, then Jessica, Joni and I went to the Seawatch bar – after that Joni and I went dancing at Club 6 – too much fun!

Day 4 St. Thomas

We had breakfast in the dining room – eggs, sausage and english muffin.  Next we got off the ship and walked to Emerald Beach – We went to the Best Western and rented a couple of chairs and walked back to the ship.  Did a little shopping at the port and had hamburgers for lunch.  We got enough sun at the beach, so just watched a movie.  We made Mai Tais for sail away – pretty yummy.  Tonight is our dinner at Crown Grill.

Dinner was awesome.

Scott and I both had the lobster cake, Scott had French Onion soup.  I had the ribeye and Scott the filet.  We both had the hot fudge desert with chocolate ice cream.  Best meal yet!  Oh yes, we had lobster too!!

Day 5 St. Martin

Another beautiful day.  We walked into town and did a little shopping.  Scott got a nice watch and I got some fun bracelets.  We got all the kids a treat too.  Headed back to the ship and ate at Alfredos – we both had calzones.  Up to the pool for the afternoon.  Sailaway happy hour here (lots of fun hearing about Jessica and Joni’s adventures for the day)  Dinner again at Concerto.  I had the cheese mousse appetizer and the orange roughy, with another chocolate desert.  Scott had shrimp cocktail and fried chicken.  And a banana split.  They brought us out calamari and a little sorbet to cleanse our palates.

We got a 700.00 credit for our soot problem on the balcony – nice!  Jessica and I went and gambled a bit – lost 40.00…

Day 6 Sea Day

We hung out at the pool for most of the day.  Formal night – lots of lobster and prawns – great food great fun.

Day 7 Sea Day

We had breakfast with Jessica in the dining room – then off to the Sanctuary for our day of rest.  It was very cool and windy, so Scott moved the chairs around and we hung out there until 3:00 or so.  Scott had his usual coffee and treat in the afternoon.  Dinner in the dining room again – Scott had shrimp cocktail and meatloaf with apple pie for desert.  I had the same with the exception of the shrimp cocktail.  We had an additional spicy shrimp treat from Roberto.  We tipped Olesya, Roger and Roberto, as well as room steward, Jesus.

Day 8 back in Florida –

Breakfast with everyone in the dining room – said our goodbyes and headed home  We dropped Jessica off at the airport and came home and unpacked.

Great trip – next up… Panama Canal 2015!
